Within the scope of the programme “Law between Land, Sea, Sustainability and the Diaspora”, promoted by the António Pargana Foundation (FAP) in partnership with NOVA School of Law, a prize will be awarded through a competition to recognise the academic merit, creativity and capacity for critical reflection of the participants on the themes addressed in the programme.

In particular, the aim is to value reflections on the role of Law in building a more just, sustainable and supportive world, strengthening the links between Portugal, Portuguese-speaking countries and diaspora communities.

Who can apply?

Teams of five students enrolled in the Program, predominantly Lusodescendants and Portuguese-speaking, who have participated in at least three modules, are eligible to apply.

Each group must develop a final project linking one of the Program’s central themes with the diaspora, which may focus, among others, on Constitutional LawLaw of the SeaSustainability and Environmental ResponsibilityHuman Rights and Migrations, or Lusophone Communities.

Written submissions, with a maximum limit of 10 pages, must be sent by April 30, 2026 to the email address geral@fundacaoap.pt

Oral presentations will take place in May 2026, after the completion of all program modules, with each team having 10 minutes to present their work to the jury.

The evaluation will consider criteria such as the relevance and timeliness of the topic, depth and coherence of analysis, legal rigor, creativity and originality of the approach, quality of examples used, and oral presentation.

The António Pargana Foundation / NOVA School of Law Prize has a total value of 1,500 euros, to be awarded to the winning team, with the amount equally divided among the five members.

The jury may also award honorable mentions to other teams that stand out for the quality or originality of their submissions.

The prize may be presented at a public ceremony organized by the António Pargana Foundation and NOVA School of Law.

Rules and Conditions of Participation

1. Background

As part of the programme ‘Law between Land, Sea, Sustainability and the Diaspora’, promoted by the António Pargana Foundation (FAP) in partnership with NOVA School of Law, a prize will be awarded, through a competition, to recognise the academic merit, creativity and critical thinking skills of participants on the topics covered in the programme.

In particular, it aims to value reflections on the role of law in building a more just, sustainable and supportive world, strengthening the links between Portugal, Portuguese-speaking countries and diaspora communities.

  1. All participants who attend the entire programme will receive a participation prize in the form of a voucher for books from a local bookshop worth €20.
  2. A prize of €250 will be awarded for the ‘Portraits of Portugal’ competition, for up to three works, with the possibility of participating in the permanent exhibition at the University Library.
  3. The prizes may be awarded at a public ceremony organised by the António Pargana Foundation and the University of Beira Interior on 27 May 2026.
  1. All students of Portuguese descent enrolled in the programme are eligible for the awards.
  2. Only students who have participated in all modules of the programme will be considered for evaluation.
  3. The absence of any element in a module may result in exclusion from the selection process, unless there is a duly justified reason accepted by the organisation.
  1. Each student must develop a portfolio of photographs (at least three) that relates one of the central themes of the programme to the Diaspora.
  2. Creative freedom in the approach is recommended, provided that academic principles are respected.
  3. The work must present the rationale for the choice of photograph associated with the selected theme;
  4. The work must be sent by 6 May to the email address: geral@fundacaoap.pt.
  1. Oral presentations will take place online between 12 and 14 May 2026.
  2. Each participant will have 10 minutes to present their work to the jury.
  3. Presentations should be clear, structured and creative, and may include the use of audiovisual resources.

The works and presentations will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

Treatment of the topic Structure, coherence and depth of analysis 10%

  1. The jury will be composed of:
    • A representative of the António Pargana Foundation;
    • Teachers from the University of Beira Interior who have participated in the programme.
  2. The jury will deliberate by consensus or, in the event of disagreement, by simple majority.
  3. The jury’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
  1. Participation in the competition implies full acceptance of these rules.
  2. The organisation reserves the right to resolve any cases not covered or situations not provided for in these rules.
  3. Any changes to these rules will be duly communicated to participants.
