Rules and Conditions of Participation

1. Background

FAP and UBI have partnered to develop the five-module programme ‘Portugal Through the Eyes of the Young Diaspora’ aimed at students of Portuguese descent at all academic levels at the University of Beira Interior, with the purpose of reflecting on Portuguese culture, history and society with a focus on the diaspora and the Portuguese-speaking world.

As part of the programme, a prize will be awarded to recognise the creativity and critical thinking skills of participants on the topics covered in the programme in a competition entitled ‘Portraits of Portugal’.

  1. All participants who attend the entire programme will receive a participation prize in the form of a voucher for books from a local bookshop worth €20.
  2. A prize will be awarded for the ‘Portraits of Portugal’ competition, for up to three works, worth €250 and the opportunity to participate in the permanent exhibition at the University Library.
  3. The prizes will be awarded at a public ceremony organised by the António Pargana Foundation and the University of Beira Interior on 27 May 2026.
  1. All students of Portuguese descent enrolled in the programme are eligible for the awards.
  2. Only students who have participated in all modules of the programme will be considered for evaluation.
  3. The absence of any element in a module may result in exclusion from the selection process, unless there is a duly justified reason accepted by the organisation.
  1. Each student must develop a portfolio of photographs (at least three) that relates one of the central themes of the programme to the Diaspora.
  2. Creative freedom in the approach is recommended, provided that academic principles are respected.
  3. The work must present the rationale for the choice of photograph associated with the selected theme;
  4. The work must be sent by 6 May to the email address: geral@fundacaoap.pt.
  1. Oral presentations will take place online between 12 and 14 May 2026.
  2. Each participant will have 10 minutes to present their work to the jury.
  3. Presentations should be clear, structured and creative, and may include the use of audiovisual resources.

The works and presentations will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
