A visit by pupils to the Oceano Azul Foundation offers a unique opportunity for learning and raising environmental awareness

Students from the Nova School of Law visited the Oceano Azul Foundation and the Lisbon Oceanarium today as part of the programme “Law between Land, Sea, Sustainability and the Diaspora”.

The session began with the screening of an institutional video and a presentation by Emanuel Gonçalves, Conservation Director at the Oceano Azul Foundation.

Professor Assunção Cristas of Nova School of Law emphasised the importance of ocean preservation and the fundamental role of the Oceano Azul Foundation in promoting ocean conservation and the sustainable use of marine resources. This was followed by the presentations “Highlights Conservation” by Brendal Townsend, Director of Conservation Operations, “Highlights International Advocacy” by Joana Martins, Project Manager for International Advocacy, and “Highlights Politics, Frameworks & Economics” by Stefania Semenova, Project Manager for Policy, Frameworks and Economics.

The students had the opportunity to take a guided tour of the Oceanarium and learn how it operates. The students’ visit to the Oceano Azul Foundation represents a unique opportunity for learning and raising environmental awareness, enabling them to gain a practical understanding of the importance of protecting the oceans and ensuring the sustainability of marine resources. By complementing this experience with a visit to the Lisbon Oceanarium, the pupils have direct contact with marine biodiversity, making the learning experience more engaging and meaningful, whilst developing greater ecological awareness and a sense of responsibility for the planet.
