23 July, 2026

The signing ceremony was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alexandra Teodósio, and the Chairman of the Foundation, António Pargana.

The António Pargana Foundation signed an important cooperation agreement with the University of Algarve (UAlg) on 23 July, during a ceremony attended by the Rector, Professor Alexandra Teodósio, and the President of the Foundation, António Pargana.

The signing of this agreement marks a significant step in strengthening the collaboration between the two institutions, fostering joint initiatives in the fields of education, research, innovation, culture, and social development, with the shared goal of contributing to the progress of the Algarve region and creating new opportunities for its people.

On the occasion, António Pargana highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating that “the University of Algarve is one of the region’s greatest drivers of development, and it is essential to join forces in supporting knowledge, education, and the empowerment of people.”

For her part, the Rector emphasised the importance of cooperation between the university and civil society organisations, stressing that such partnerships are essential for bringing academic knowledge closer to the needs of the community and for promoting projects with meaningful social and economic impact.

The University of Algarve is the leading higher education institution in the region and is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. It currently has more than 10,000 students across its campuses in Faro and Portimão, including a vibrant international academic community representing dozens of countries.

The University of Algarve has also played an important role in strengthening ties with the Portuguese diaspora, demonstrating a strong ability to attract students, researchers, and academics of Portuguese heritage living abroad, while educating young people who carry the name and knowledge of the Algarve to countries around the world. This international dimension enhances the region’s global profile and helps strengthen the connections between Portugal and Portuguese communities worldwide.

Over the past decades, UAlg has played a decisive role in educating thousands of professionals, producing scientific knowledge, and fostering innovation, making a significant contribution to the economic, social, and cultural development of the Algarve.

Through this cooperation agreement, the António Pargana Foundation and the University of Algarve reaffirm their commitment to working together in support of education, inclusion, research, and the sustainable development of the region. The partnership also aims to strengthen engagement with Portuguese communities abroad by promoting initiatives that value talent, knowledge, and the connection of Portuguese citizens and people of Portuguese descent to the Algarve, creating bridges between the region and the world.
