Within the framework of initiatives aimed at Portuguese-descendant communities, the António Pargana Foundation and the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (FDUL) promoted the thematic program “Getting to Know Portugal Upon Arrival,” designed to welcome and bring young people of Portuguese descent closer to Portuguese reality.
The program was developed in two complementary phases, providing participants with an experience of discovering Portuguese society, culture, and history.
The first phase took place at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, through a Welcome Conference dedicated to the socio-political, legal, and cultural context of the country. This session allowed young people to deepen their knowledge of contemporary Portuguese society, contributing to a better understanding of its institutions, values, and social dynamics.
The initiative continued with a visit to the National Pantheon, one of the most emblematic monuments of Portuguese collective memory. In this space of high historical and symbolic significance, participants had the opportunity to learn about some of the personalities who marked the history of Portugal, reinforcing their connection with the country’s heritage and cultural identity.
More than just a welcoming experience, this initiative provided an opportunity to strengthen the connection of young people of Portuguese descent to Portugal, combining knowledge of contemporary reality with the discovery of the historical and cultural roots that form their identity.
Through this collaboration with the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, the António Pargana Foundation reaffirms its commitment to promoting experiences that bring new generations closer to their Portuguese origins, fostering knowledge, a sense of belonging, and ties between Portugal and Portuguese communities around the world.
