The Assembly of the Republic once again opened its doors to another group of young students, this time from the University of Beira Interior, as part of the António Pargana Foundation’s programme ‘Portugal Through the Eyes of the Young Diaspora’.
The visit proved to be a memorable experience for all participants, who had the opportunity to see at close quarters one of the most important venues in national political life. Beyond its institutional role, the Portuguese Parliament also stands out as a true national historical monument, steeped in symbolism and history. The students also emphasised the importance of visiting the “house of democracy”, the place where issues of fundamental importance to the country are debated and decided.
During the visit, the group was welcomed by MP Alexandre Poças, who was happy to answer questions and engage in conversation with the students. In an informal and friendly atmosphere, the MP explained how Parliament works and gave a concrete insight into the day-to-day routine and responsibilities inherent in the work of an MP.
The participants also had the opportunity to meet two Members of Parliament from the Castelo Branco constituency, Leonor Cipriano and Ricardo Aires, further enriching the experience.
The students thus had the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the role of democratic institutions and the importance of civic participation, in an initiative that strengthens the link between young people and public life. The event was widely praised by participants, who found it enriching, inspiring and essential for a more informed and active citizenry.
